Liposuction in Phoenix is an outpatient procedure when performed by our board-certified plastic surgeons. This means that you will go home following your procedure. It does not mean that you should resume your normal activities at that time. In fact, it is very important that you take the first 24 hours following your procedure to rest. You should arrange for assistance from a responsible adult to drive you home from your liposuction procedure and to help around the house during this first day.
Recovery Period
Recovery from liposuction will be different for every individual. In general, you will need to avoid work for up to one week and strenuous activities for up to six weeks. Walking and moderate exercise can be resumed within 24 hours of your procedure, just take extra care not to overexert yourself or to place unnecessary strain on your incisions. This mild exercise can actually reduce swelling and speed healing.
You will return to our office for a follow up visit after your first week of recovery to allow your surgeon to ensure you are healing appropriately and advise you of steps you can take to help ensure pleasing results. Be careful to follow all of your surgeon’s postoperative advice. This is essential to the outcome of your procedure.
Complete liposuction recovery can take four to six weeks, but the results of your procedure may take several months to be fully apparent. Patience is key with liposuction recovery. Your body may take time to conform to its new shape, but once it does, your results will be permanent
