If you are considering breast augmentation but have not ruled out future pregnancies, you may wonder how breast implants will impact breastfeeding. During your breast enlargement consultation with one of our Phoenix plastic surgeons, it is important that you discuss your future plans for pregnancy. There are certain steps our surgeons can take to ensure your breast implants do not interfere with breastfeeding.
Breast Implant Options
Two things can impact breastfeeding following breast enlargement: Implant placement and incision location. However, both of these things can be customized to minimize potential interference with breastfeeding.
If you plan on breastfeeding with breast implants, our surgeons may recommend:
- Inframammary or transaxillary incisions – these options eliminate the risk of reduced nipple sensitivity
- Submuscular implant placement – this option is much less likely to compress milk ducts
Most women do not experience any difficulties breastfeeding after breast enlargement surgery. Our surgeons will take every care to provide you with the breast implant options that are best suited to reach your aesthetic goals without interfering with your physical needs.
